A circus has come to town, a small one by the name of Lennon Bros. It's pitched in the local footy field, where the markets are usually held, where the circus Ben and I went to see last year was pitched -- although this is a different one. We saw the Stardust, owned, if I see correctly from the web, by the same company. I wouldn't have thought the demand for circuses was high enough to have more than one small family circus travelling the countryside.
I bought tickets to Stardust because I'd never been to a circus. I'd seen circus marquees as a youngster, one day hoisted up in some oval or paddock, and seemingly gone the next, with no opportunity to see what went on inside. When the circus was advertised locally I sought entry, and only told Ben afterwards.
"That's the circus where that guy got killed by the elephant," he said, and upon investigating further I found out that the elephant trainer had been trampled on.
