owlrigh@gmail.com BioOver a decade of my early life were spent on a yacht, Pampero II, during which my parents, younger brother, and I circumnavigated the world. The next ten were on land, for high schooling and university (where I spent five years and left without a degree), before finding myself in 2005 back on water again on my yacht, Gecko, a 27ft (8m) Pacific sloop.
I'm a mad for speculative fiction, which has led me into the world of fandom in the form of attending science fiction conventions, reading and producing fanzines, and a keen interest in SF television shows and anime. My bibliophilic tendencies run from fiction to SF criticism and a thirst for reading in a wide variety of topics, most especially the sciences (social and hard) and biographies.
I can be found riding my bicycle around. Exploring by water is not sufficient; in addition to sailing I'm a cycling enthusiast. I currently ride a Trek 7200 FX hybrid modified to hard forks and drop-bars.
Work-wise I currently am a grocery assistant (or nightfiller, depending upon contract) for one of Australia´s major supermarkets. I was last a cook/hostess/deckhand upon charter vessels in the Whitsunday area; prior to that I've done various non-skilled jobs, with longer stints involving work as a cleaner and stripping in a gentleman's club. Volunteer work is not something I'm a stranger with, doing seven years at an art gallery and several with the Queensland State Emergency Service, the latter all sorts of fun and games searching for missing people.
I currently live in the township of Ballina (a few km south of Byron Bay, NSW), anchored in Emigrant Creek, an offshoot of the Richmond River. My partner, Ben, lives on my boat and is building a catamaran (a Whitehaven 10.9) on which we will live when it is completed, after which we will depart the muddy waters of Ballina for the fair blue seas.
